Inoue Takehiko is a Japanese Manga artist most famous for works like SlamDunk and Vagabond.
He is an excellent painter, and a masterful storyteller. His stories often captures the human emotions and experiences. And often then not the great pacing brings you into the story itself, the passion and adrenaline pumping up, just like when reading SlamDunk you will feel that you are playing in the game as well.
In his stylistic approach, he draws with very loose strokes that makes his works looks like paintings. His drawings are so detailed and dynamic. He is really good in capturing the correct expressions for the characters, and even planting the characters with sweat all over their faces does not look awkward at all.
The all time most popular Manga- SlamDunk

This is the trailer of a his DVD titled 'DRAW'
If you want to watch the dvd or other clips of him drawing, i don't think you can find them on youtube, but i found some on dailymotion.
Some commercials he did where he show his capabilities in drawing large drawings.
Pray for Japan
This is actually the point of this entire post.
Takehiko recently released an ongoing collection of drawings titled 'Smile' on his twitter account to provide encouragement to the crisis in Japan.
These beautiful drawings are drawn on the iPad using a application call Zen Brush.
It's currently at image #108 as I'm posting. Lets us now all pray for Japan. :)
Recommendation:
Real
Real is one of my favourite manga and god its so awesome. The story revolves around wheelchair basketball, which is quite a unique choice in sports genre manga. As oppose to the much popular SlamDunk, Real has a more serious plot and deeper character development in a very realistic setting. And it is aimed at a more mature audience as well. It takes around 1 year for each volume to be released, but if you start reading then you should be able to know why. Each panel and frame is like a piece of art on each own. It's amazing how much details he puts on each drawing. I heard some people don't really like it for it's slow pace and much emphasis on characters then on basketball. So it is only recommended if you like to read stuffs more on story then just actions. If not you can always go back to SlamDunk, which has everything and still so awesome.
I'm taking Stop Motion class under the great animator Ishu Patel this semester so I'll be spending alot of time under the camera working on different techniques.
Here's one test animation i did with plasticine, its pretty short. 42 frames, time taken around 2-3 hours.
The first one is a creative music video using the flip book idea. I believe everyone of us tried it at least once during our childhood on a dictionary or your textbook, its animation!
The second one is a Levi's stop-motion advertisement.
And last but not least is a cool experimental visual effect piece. Something i would like to try out one day.
2 of my favourite things combined together and you get a beautiful piece of art.
Created by artist Richard Swarbrick, this piece of animation relives Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale's memorable Champions League performances against Inter Milan last year.
Not that I am a Bale fan, but his performance that day was truly stunning and world class.
The artist rotoscoped all the players with loosely strokes using just white and blue. Simple and beautiful.
This blog is setup to share my new works and any other interesting and inspiring works i come across.
